Greg Hale
Co-Founder & Principal, Regen Associates LLC; The Catskill Project
Greg Hale is a co-founder and principal of Regen Associates LLC which is the owner / developer of The Catskill Project, a 25-home single-family residential community in Livingston Manor, NY. The Catskill Project combines Passive House, all-electric design with 100% clean electricity to make it the first carbon neutral single-family community in the Northeast.
Greg served as Senior Advisor for Energy Efficiency Markets & Finance at the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) from early 2018 through January, 2024, when he left to focus full time on The Catskill Project. At NYSERDA, Greg led the development of the Carbon Neutral Buildings Roadmap (CNBR), charting the path to a statewide carbon neutral building stock by mid-century. The CNBR was a foundational document for the Buildings Chapter of the New York Climate Action Council’s Final Scoping Plan. Greg was also a co-creator and strategic advisor to RetrofitNY, an initiative aimed at developing scalable high-performance existing building retrofit solutions that achieve or approach net zero energy. After completion of the CNBR, Greg focused on developing comprehensive financing strategies to leverage low-cost private sector capital at scale to finance New York’s transition to clean and efficient buildings.
Prior to joining NYSERDA, Greg served in the Governor’s Office as Senior Advisor to the Chairman of Energy & Finance, where he focused on the development and execution of the Governor’s signature energy policy– Reforming the Energy Vision (REV). Greg was responsible for overseeing the establishment of the $1 billion NY Green Bank and was the lead author of NY’s 2015 State Energy Plan. Prior to joining the Governor’s Office, Mr. Hale was the Director of Efficiency Finance at Natural Resources Defense Council’s Center for Market Innovation.
Mr. Hale is a founding board member of the New York City Energy Efficiency Corporation, where he currently serves on the HR & Governance committee, and he served on the steering committee of the PACENow Coalition.
Prior to NRDC, Mr. Hale spent 17 years in the real estate industry, first as a real estate lawyer at Skadden, Arps, et al., and then as co-founder, principal and general counsel of Cirque Property L.C., a real estate investment company based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Hale is a graduate of Dartmouth College and The University of Michigan Law School.
